Okay, so it feels like this is getting shared because it’s “cringe” stuff, but I’ve actually watched the video, so let me set the record straight.

The video is here, and it is both a rant and a speedpaint. You get to watch her traditionally create that picture in the thumbnail.

The girl shares a story of how first it was her brother who drew in the anime style. Whose teachers told him that he didn’t have any talent and wasn’t good enough for an art school. That his art wasn’t good because he uses references(even though the teachers forced them to use references and even collect references as an assignment) and the anime style. They literally crushed his dreams, making him stop drawing altogether, thinking he was ‘uncreative’.

Then she shares her own experiences, of working with the teachers that already crushed her brother. One even didn’t like her because he found out she was the little sister of the guy before. How they would humiliate her in front of the class. And loudly shout things like ‘give me one good reason I shouldn’t fail you right now!” while giving every other student constructive criticism, even though she didn’t use the anime style on the thing(Like a still-life of objects)

And even non-art related incidents. Like when she was the only person not talking in a class, and the teacher screamed at her to ‘Shut up!’. This same teacher also tried to fail her on an assignment she hadn’t given(Artist girl was being tutored at home because her brother had cancer, and the teacher wouldn’t send her the assignments.

And then she mentions the ‘senior showcase’ which is a thing to show off your art. She wasn’t allowed to do that. She also wasn’t allowed to take AP Art classes, even though she had all the prerequisites. Meanwhile, another student got into the class without prerequisites.

She talks about not only her and her brother, but mentions that other people had asked about it on her TWITCH streams, as it had happened to them. And I must remind y’all, this was HIGH SCHOOL teachers who did this stuff, not fancy-schmancy art colleges. She mentions that her problem with this is that teachers are supposed to help kids with their future. They should be encouraging, and yes they should try and help them get outside their comfort zone, but they shouldn’t tell kids to give up on their dreams.

She then mentions that she thinks about ‘how I would have taught a high school art class’, and mentions things her teachers did instead of teach. Like sat in the corner and done their own personal art instead of helping the class.

She thinks teachers should be encouraging and try to help them achieve their dreams. And tbh that’s what their literal job is. She then mentions her college-level art classes, who actually walked around and helped the class improve, instead of sitting around and telling high school kids that they suck.

Tbh, I’m glad that most my high school art teachers were encouraging. They understood that I liked the ‘anime’ style, but didn’t tell me not to do it, just only to do it if they don’t give a specific ‘style’ to draw in. You know, don’t do ‘anime’ if you’re supposed to draw realism, but if the only thing for your assignment is ‘draw whatever using oil pastels’, go ahead. My other art teacher was a terrible person overall, not just with art.
