She had chosen a girl over the world, and now this girl was breathing and safe while the world was… not so much. It wasn’t truly important if she never understood, Michiru reminded to herself. She didn’t expect her to understand. She didn’t expect anything at all, she assigned herself with a duty and accomplished it. Everything was done as it should have been, she repeated, watching the girl that was worth the whole world walking away.
Her communicator buzzed, bringing a message telling she wasn’t a senshi anymore. Michiru didn’t bother to look. She already knew it.
Michiru is my favorite Senshi.
Not because she is the nicest (hah), or the funniest, or the bravest, or any of that.
I like her because she is difficult. She is complex. And nothing sums up that inner complexity like this work. I think this was for a prompt party, or something, though I can’t rightly remember and it doesn’t seem important now.
Michiru giving up the world for Haruka, not just hers, but everyone’s because without Haruka the world is pointless and dead, and haruka rejecting her for the choice, is everything. The red blink on Michiru’s communicator, against the greys and purples and blacks, Michiru’s only choice was failure, whatever she chose, is the most amazing communication in the whole work.
She had no choices. There was nothing she could do. And that’s what I love about Michiru.
