YOU KNOW REI’S NOT DOING GREAT IF SHE’S ALLOWING HERSELF TO STAY KNEELED AT MINAKO’S FEET

But let’s talk a second. We don’t see what happened to lead to this, but we can fairly reasonably draw between the lines. Rei likely staggered, the fever sucking enough of her strength for a second that even she can’t stay up. She goes down, maybe falling all the way, maybe fighting it enough that she’s able to catch herself halfway. Immediately, you know she’s trying to get back up. Everything we’ve seen from Rei in this song so far has exuded strength and intensity and readiness. There’s no part of her that wants to be less than her best at a regular time, and this is far from that.

But the she feels a hand on her shoulder, keeping her still. It’s Minako, telling Rei with a look to just stay there. “Take a breath, steady yourself. Yeah, I saw you fall. Yeah yeah, vulnerability, very upsetting, Mighty Hino has struck out. Trust me, I plan to see you a lot more compromised than this later. But if there’s gonna be a later, I need you at your best. So just stay the fuck down there until I tell you you can move. Huh, that worked. MENTAL NOTE.”

MINAKO BEING MINAKO ASIDE, what I love about this is there’s so much vulnerability for Rei, and lack of judgment for it from Minako. Usually nobody would seize a weakness like Minako, and nobody would fight faster to never show one like Rei. That they each allow this moment to happen, and to happen between THEM, says more and says it better than I think it would between anyone else.
